Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats was established by Bob and Valerie Hitch in 1989 when they took in just two goats from the RSPCA. Before long goats suffering from cruelty, neglect and starvation or simply abandoned by the roadside began arriving in such numbers that Charitable status was sought in order to secure the long term future of the sanctuary. The Charities Commission gave this status in September 2003 and, at this time, Buttercups is the only registered Goat Charity in the United Kingdom whose sole aim is to provide relief for goats suffering from abuse and neglect and taking into care those that are abandoned or no longer have a home.
Set in ancient parkland the sanctuary provides animals who have suffered so much with a safe and loving home for the rest of their lives.

Goldie is one of our rescued goats and this picture shows her shortly after she arrived at Buttercups from the vets. Her feet are bandaged because she had been locked in a shed and starved for months and the horn on her feet had grown so long that she could no longer stand
Fennel arrived with her sister, Sorrel; she had a twisted back believed to have been caused by an untreated leg injury when she was young. Sorrel had a gangrenous foot and had to have a claw removed but both recovered well and were able to make the most of their new life at Buttercups Click here to view some more case histories |
