Board of Trustees

Sarah joined the Board of Trustees in May 2022 and was appointed as Co-chair in May 2024. Sarah has had a passion for animals all her life. As well as being a trustee for Buttercups, since January 2023 after she took early retirement from full time employment she has volunteered at the sanctuary once a week. She loves the tranquillity of the sanctuary and the chance to interact with the goats, each of which has their own unique personalities. Sarah is a Chartered Occupational Hygienist and Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene. She spent the majority of her career working for a major petrochemical company and had the opportunity to travel extensively within Europe and Africa. She has been a trustee for the BOHS, her professional society, since 2019 so brings experience to the Buttercups Board of Trustees both from her career and other trustee role. Sarah lives near Maidstone with her husband and rescued greyhound and enjoys keeping active, travelling and reading.
Helen joined the Board of Trustees in August 2024. Helen has always been around animals and wildlife; her parents were both veterinary surgeons which meant that often animals would come home with them. She volunteered for many years for the RSPCA where she loved working with the small animals and wildlife. Her day job is as a farm adviser: going out to farms and landholdings supporting grant applications and providing land management advice on a number of topics such as reducing water pollution and increasing biodiversity. She is currently studying an Environmental science degree which takes up a most of her free time. Helen loves watching the goats at the sanctuary enjoy their day to day and seeing the friendships they have formed. As she is South African born, she has a soft spot for all the Boar goats but loves the charm and character of every goat she meets!
Sandra joined the Board in January 2025. She is a lawyer with expertise in compliance, governance and risk management as well as a wide range of commercial legal issues. She is currently the Head of Legal at the British Council (the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, operating in over 100 countries in the fields of arts, culture, English language, education and civil society). She was previously a Trustee for Animal Free Research UK and is currently a Trustee of English National Ballet and the Chair of the Governance, Nominations and Remuneration Committee. Sandra is a passionate believer in animal welfare and was a volunteer at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home for over 3 years. She loves visiting Buttercups and spending time with the wonderful team and, of course, the goats (the real stars of the show)!
Trevor is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Advisor and Business Finance Professional and is the Managing Partner of the Kent Branch of a Top 20 firm of Business advisors and accountants, after previously setting up and growing his own Firm to 100 people over the previous 30 years. Trevor, for his sins, in his spare time, is a passionate season ticket holder at Arsenal and looks forward to them winning the title…hopefully! Although Trevor is an animal lover, he unfortunately is allergic to fur, so any interaction with the goats will certainly be from afar, although his wife and daughters I’m sure will get closer!
Amy swiftly became a member of the volunteer team after visiting Buttercups on an open day, immediately falling in love with the charity and wanting to help. For many years she attended the sanctuary every Sunday to care for the goats and also helped with fundraising activities. Over the years Amy has been a guardian to several Buttercups goats, all of which hold a special place in her heart. She has had a great passion for animals and their welfare from a young age and this remains a core value in her life.  In 2016 Amy joined the Board of Trustees and takes great pride in supporting the Sanctuary and ensuring the goats have a safe and happy place to call home.
Luan first joined the board of trustees in 2025, offering a wealth of practical experience and works for a local school.
